What does "spiritual practice" mean for you? What might constitute an engaging, fruitful practice, that you could integrate into your daily life? Join the Open Heart Circle on Wednesday, August 27 to explore these questions. For our discovery process, we'll be working with a spiritual practice that offers direct experiential revelation: the shamanic journey. No experience with journeying is necessary this month. Newcomers are welcome. Please bring an eye-cover (bandanna or scarf), a journal, and a drum or rattle, if you have one (there are plenty here to borrow, as well). $5 suggested donation. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., for a 7 p.m. start. Come early and get comfortable. Please RSVP if you intend to join us. Contact me for directions (East Windsor, NJ).
October 8-12, 2014
Pendle Hill Retreat Center, Wallingford, Pennsylvania
In the course of our lives, parts of our soul or life essence can leave us in order to remain safe in the face of trauma, shame or other soul injuries. As a result, we may experience illness, or feel blocked or less than we are fully capable of being.
Join us for this intensive training to explore the practice of Soul Retrieval and the shaman's role in singing the soul back home - journeying to find and restore soul parts to clients experiencing soul loss and wishing to feel whole again.
In this pivotal time on our planet, this beautiful practice allows clients to experience the love, joy and wholeness that is their birthright.
This training meets the Soul Retrieval prerequisite for Sandra Ingerman's 2-year Teacher Training beginning in April 2015.
Taught by Susan Rossi & Cindy O'Connor
"Most of us are looking for a strong sense of self. We find that the only feelings of wholeness come from within. We find that outer security is false and that we must feel secure inside ourselves. When we are all here, or home, it's much easier to feel peaceful, secure and in harmony with the greater whole - the universe."
- Sandra Ingerman, Soul Retrieval
OPEN HEART CIRCLE
WEDNESDAY, MAY 28, 2014
The psychopomp is one who helps departed souls to a safe place in the afterlife. In May, we'll discuss this traditional role of the shaman; introduce some of the compassionate allies who assist with transitions; and explore whether or not this beautiful work calls to us. RSVP email@example.com.
Open Heart Circle will invite the presence of Archangel Michael on Wednesday, April 23. Practicing conscious mediumship skills, we will ask to be attuned (to the best of our capacity) to this powerful angelic being, and to give voice to his wisdom and guidance. We will devote the first part of our gathering to getting to know the special qualities of Michael, and will invite him to share with us what he will. Why is it Archangel Michael people so often call upon when they are in most dire need of protection? We will then ask for guidance in regard to specific questions. Please bring several written questions with you. Prior mediumship training not necessary (but helpful!). Door opens at 6:30; we will begin promptly at 7. Suggested $5 donation. It is important to RSVP if you plan to attend, because the space will be created beforehand. RSVP by 5 p.m. on Wednesday to firstname.lastname@example.org or 609.273.4399.
Tools are important partners in the practice of shamanism. Rattles, drums, staffs, stones, flutes, drums, blankets, bells and whistles.... What do we need and why? How do we empower them to be our partners in practice? What's the difference between a tool we buy and a tool we make? Join Open Heart Circle at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 to explore the remarkable power of our tools. Bring a favorite tool or two. Some journey experience required. Suggested $5 donation. Door opens at 6:30 - come and get settled. Please RSVP if you plan to attend, so that we may hold a place for you.
The Open Heart Circle will practice conscious mediumship as a group on Wednesday, February 26. We will invite one compassionate spirit to come through us, and to answer questions asked by the circle. Please bring 3 questions, written on a piece of paper, that you would like to hear asked of the spirit publicly. Please bring one question each that relate to the past, present, and future. They may be questions concerning your personal life, the life of your community, or the life of the planet. Know that the answers to an individual's questions often speak to many people in a gathered group. Please bring a small offering of fruit or nuts for the spirits, a head covering, a rattle or drum, and a journal. Suggested donation of $5. Circle begins at 7 p.m. - door opens at 6:30. Please RSVP if you intend to come, so that we may hold a place for you.
I was first introduced to Reiki in 1999 by a friend who volunteered for Hospice, and was trained to use it with her patients. She gave me a session for my birthday. I experienced Reiki as immediately life-changing, and continue (14 years later) to ride the waves of change it initiated for me. I offer this day-long Usui Reiki Training to others who would like to incorporate the healing effects of the practice in their lives.
Some say that Reiki is an ancient healing art. Dr. Mikao Usui discovered, or rediscovered Reiki, in 1914. While enrolled in training at a Tendai Buddhist Temple on Mount Kurama in Japan, he experienced an epiphany, and experienced Reiki. He built a clinic in 1925, following a devastating earthquake in Tokyo. He trained and attuned others to practice Reiki, and the practice has been passed down, person-to-person. Anyone can be attuned and learn to practice Reiki to help heal themselves and others.
“Rei” means “Universal/Spiritual Consciousness”; “Ki” means “Life Force” (“Chi” in Chinese, “Prana” in Sanskrit.) William Lee Rand describes it as “spiritually guided life energy… both powerful and gentle.” This energy flows through the practitioner. The practitioner’s intention is for the highest good for the client: for the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing they need at this time. Reiki is not a religion; people of many faiths practice Reiki.
Reiki provides all the benefits of safe, loving touch (as a mother’s touch for her child). It promotes relaxation, which facilitates self-healing. It may facilitate better life choices for ourselves (eating, exercising, etc.). It is an effective tool to help deal with addiction, depression, grief, pain, and other chronic problems.
We will spend the morning discussing the history, philosophy, and practical application of Reiki; and will spend the afternoon practicing the hand positions for self-Reiki and Reiki with others. Participants will receive a workbook and a certificate indicating that they have completed Reiki I training. Lunch is provided. Please wear comfortable clothing.
The fee is $150. The fee for students and retired people is $75. I am happy to consider a barter of services, for those without financial resources; and will consider a sliding scale. Participants are required to have experienced at least one Reiki session prior to the training.
Please let me know that you intend to participate by December 30. Payment may be made the day of the training. email@example.com
What is it like to communicate directly with an important person from history? To speak with Abraham Lincoln, Mary of Nazareth, Albert Einstein, Harriet Tubman, Leonardo da Vinci, the Oracle of Delphi? We'll explore the possibilities at the next Open Heart Circle, which will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18. Because several of the circle's members will attend Betsy Bergstrom's Mediumship Intensive in April, the next few months of the Open Heart Circle will be devoted to preparing for that event (and will be fun for those not attending the Intensive, as well). For this gathering, please bring a rattle (or plan to borrow one here), eye-covering, and journal. Suggested donation of $5 will be given to One Spirit, to benefit the Lakota people of Pine Ridge. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Email or call 609.273.4399.
Betsy Bergstrom will teach a Mediumship Intensive at Pendle Hill near Philadelphia, April 9-13, 2014. Betsy is an extraordinary, internationally recognized shamanic practitioner and teacher, best known for her Middle World work. This is an opportunity to explore natural and daily aspects of our human experience - mediumship, attunement and entraining. The program will include exploration of Ancestral Fields and a oracular High Seat Ceremony. It is a wonderful introduction to Betsy's teaching. Applicants should have experience with shamanic journeying. Space is limited. For more information, see http://cindyoconnor.net/workshops/.
Air, fire, water, earth, and sacred space. Sacred space may be understood as one of the essential elements. How do we invoke sacred space? What does it feel like, and who helps us in creating it? This circle usually meets the 4th Wednesday of the month, but this month I'm sponsoring Betsy Bergstrom's Curse and Thoughtform Unraveling workshop at that time. So, we'll meet a week early on Wednesday, August 21. Divination is an art that is fundamental to shamanic practice. This month, we'll have some fun exploring several practical ways to practice divination. We'll see how the natural world offers a treasure trove of messages for us. Please bring a rock or stone the size of your heart or fist. It need not be heart-shaped. Find a rock whose spirit is happy to work with you for the evening, and bring it along. We may spend 30 minutes or so outside, so please dress for that, in case. Bring a rattle or drum (or plan to borrow one here), an eye-cover, a journal, and anything you'd like to place on the altar. We meet 7-9 p.m. in East Windsor. Please RSVP if you plan to attend, and let me know if you need directions.
Join us in honoring our ancestors at the Open Heart Journey Circle this month. Bring a photo of an ancestor - living or living in memory - to circle. With the help of our guiding spirits, we will explore our relationship with these people so important in our lives. Shamanism is a practice of direct revelation that addresses the spiritual aspects of our health and well-being. We meet Wednesday, July 24, 7-8:30 p.m. (door opens at 6:30). Drums and rattles are available to borrow, or bring your own. Please bring an eye-covering (bandanna) and a journal. Suggested offering is $5. RSVP via email or to 609-273-4399.

We will explore how to unravel an old dream, and how to reclaim the life force we invested in it. We'll work with a rattle. If you have one, bring it and a journal, and a bandanna or eye-covering. (I have rattles to share here, as well.) Donation of $5 recommended. To be held in central Jersey, in East Windsor. Please contact me for location details and directions. We meet the 4th Wednesday of the month. The Open Heart Journey Circle is intended for folks with a bit of experience, and those looking to acquire it. Our intention is to continue to get to know our helping spirits better: to be in conscious relationship with them, and to learn more about how we may work together for healing and insight.
